Moxibustion to Turn Breech Presentation Babies

We also offer guided online moxibustion consultations, with moxa sticks posted to you in advance.

Moxa to help your baby turn to a head down position.

Whilst it might appear strange, moxibustion is an age old method of turning babies presenting in a breech position. A number of studies have explored moxibustion for breech presentation, with some suggesting it may encourage babies to turn when used at the right stage of pregnancy.

An acupuncturist will use moxa, which is a herb made from the mugwort plant. The herb is moulded into a cigar-like stick and is set alight and smoulders near specific acupuncture points. The mother is given homework to do this herself every morning and evening until the baby turns.

Moxibustion is typically used between 32 and 36 weeks, when there is still space for the baby to turn.

No needles are used - just some gentle heat. It's actually rather pleasant!

Can moxibustion be done at home?

Yes. When guided correctly, this is a simple technique many women can safely carry out at home.

At Truth Fertility, we offer a short online consultation where we:

  • Show you exactly how to locate the point
  • Demonstrate how to use the moxa stick safely
  • Guide you on timing and frequency
  • Answer any questions specific to your pregnancy

Before your session, you’ll be asked to complete a short medical form so we can ensure the approach is appropriate for you.

We’ll arrange for moxa sticks to be sent to you so you can begin safely at home.
