Genetic (Karyotype) Testing for Fertility

We use advanced karyotype testing to uncover chromosomal causes behind infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss.

The Test

Karyotype testing is a simple blood test that analyses your chromosomes — the genetic structures that carry all of your DNA. This test helps identify whether a genetic imbalance or rearrangement could be affecting fertility, embryo development, or contributing to recurrent miscarriage.

By examining the size, shape, and number of chromosomes, karyotyping can reveal underlying causes of infertility that routine tests often miss — such as translocations, deletions, or duplications. These insights allow us to guide patients more accurately toward appropriate treatment options or genetic counselling when needed.

Working in partnership with Dr Irfana Koita and the IVF Matters team ensures that every test is processed with expert precision and reviewed through a clinical lens. This collaboration allows us to provide evidence-based genetic insight as part of your wider fertility plan — bringing clarity, confidence, and direction to your journey.

Balanced Chromosomal Translocations — A Hidden Factor in Fertility

Many people have never heard of balanced translocations, yet they can play a significant role in infertility, IVF failure, or recurrent miscarriage. In this article, we explore what a balanced translocation is, how it arises, and why it may be worth investigating — especially when fertility challenges remain unexplained.

Why Karyotype Testing Is Standard Abroad - But Rarely In The UK

In many leading fertility clinics abroad — particularly across Europe and the US — karyotype testing is a standard part of early fertility investigations. This proactive approach helps to identify hidden chromosomal issues before patients embark on costly or emotionally draining treatment cycles.

In the UK, however, karyotyping is typically only offered after multiple IVF failures or recurrent miscarriages, meaning many couples undergo extensive treatment before genetic causes are ever explored. We believe this reactive model can delay answers, increase expense, and prolong emotional strain.

At Truth Fertility, we aim to bridge that gap by offering karyotype testing earlier in the fertility journey, where appropriate. Understanding your genetic blueprint from the outset can help avoid unnecessary treatments, refine clinical decisions, and ultimately save time, money, and heartache.

By integrating this level of diagnostic insight, we bring our patients closer to the international standard of care — where science and compassion work hand in hand to improve outcomes.
