Acupuncture for labour induction
Acupuncture has long been used to help prepare the body for labour - gently, safely and in harmony with nature. It won't force labour to begin before your baby is ready, but it may help support the natural physiological changes that occur as your body prepares for birth.
Labour is orchestrated by a complex interplay of hormones, including oxytocin and prostaglandins. One theory is that when we remain in a heightened state of stress, the body's hormonal environment may become less favourable for labour to begin. Acupuncture has been shown to influence the autonomic nervous system and may help calm the body's stress response, creating a more favourable environment for labour to start naturally when both mother and baby are ready.
Many midwives recognise the benefits of acupuncture as supportive care during the final weeks of pregnancy and regularly refer their patients to us. If your midwife or consultant has advised induction before full term, please provide written confirmation when completing your online questionnaire.
