7 Sure-Fire Ways To Improve Sperm

[@portabletext/react] Unknown block type "undefined", specify a component for it in the `components.types` prop
  1. Take a Vitamin D supplement. Vitamin D deficiency has been shown to significantly affect male fertility. (Gaskins & Chavarro, 2018)
  2. Stop hot tubs and saunas. This is essentially suicide for sperm. Studies have shown that saunas and hot tubs have a significant impact on sperm. Sperm likes to remain at a cool 4 degrees and will literally die if exposed to heat. By stopping these activities it is possible to reverse the damage.
  3. Lose weight (if you’re overweight). Obesity causes an increase in oestrogen and a decrease in testosterone. Testosterone directly affects fertility by causing a decrease in sperm production but also indirectly affects fertility through a low sex drive. Excess oestradiol directly effects fertility through the development of the sperm and indirectly causes infertility through erectile dysfunction. So obesity, in itself, causes a hormonal imbalance. Also, being overweight causes chronic inflammation which not only increases cortisol levels but also increases the scrotal temperature.
  4. Take mobile phones out of trouser pockets and don’t use laptops on laps. Radio frequency electromagnetic waves emitted from cell phones lead to oxidative stress in human semen. Laptops are doubly harmful as not only do they emit the same radio frequency waves, but when using on laps will heat up the testicles causing damage to the sperm. In the first study of its kind, ex vivo exposure of human spermatozoa to a wireless internet-connected laptop decreased motility and induced DNA fragmentation by a non-thermal effect. (Avendano et al, 2012)
  5. Ejaculate regularly. Studies have shown that especially older men should ejaculate regularly to encourage new sperm regeneration. This has been seen to favourably impact the DNA of the sperm.
  6. Have regular acupuncture. Studies show that acupuncture is effective in reducing scrotal temperature, reducing inflammation, increasing testosterone levels, improving sperm maturation in the epididymis and reducing liquid peroxidation of sperm.
  7. Take Vitamin E, antioxidants and L-Carnitine amino acid. A study group found that taking Vitamin E, CoQ10 and an amino acid called Carnitine having dramatic effects on fertility. Here are the details:
  • 40 infertile men were supplemented daily with two or three of the supplements providing these nutrients.
  • After 3 and 6 months of treatment, sperm density was improved by 48.9% and 80.9% respectively, and after 3 months of treatment the sperm pathology decreased by 25.8%.
  • Concentrations of CoQ(10-TOTAL) (ubiquinone + ubiquinol) and α-tocopherol were significantly increased and the oxidative stress was decreased.
  • In conclusion, the effect of supplementary therapy with these supplements showed benefits on sperm function in men, resulting in 45% pregnancies of their partners. (Gvozdjáková A et al, 2015)
